The Rules of Basketball

1 comentario:

  1. Hi, I am Belén Ruiz, a student from the 4th year of Secondary in San Gregorio School. As in this assessment we have been practicing basketball, I am going to talk about this video, which explains the different basketball rules in an easy way to understand them.
At first, the man says that each team is made up of 15 players, with 5 players in each basketball match playing at one time. These five players are the point guard, the shooting guard, the power forward, the small forward and the center.
The game starts with the tip-off, which consists of two players, one from each team, jumping to take the basketball, previously thrown up by the referee.
Once a player has the ball, he/she has 24 seconds to pass or shoot it to the basket, which is 10ft (3,048 meters) from the ground (as a curiosity, the court in the NBA is 94ft long x 50ft wide, that means 28,65 x 15 meters).
He continues explaining how to move the ball around the court, you can pass it a teammate, or dribble the ball while you bounce it. To score a point, a player must get the ball into the basket (you get 2 points scoring within the arc, if it is outside the arc, the payers gets 3 points, any free shoot get 1 point).
The game is played in 4x12 minutes Quarters in the NBA, 4x10 minutes Quarters internationally or 2x20 minutes halves in the NCAA, and the high score when the time finish, wins.
Afterwards, the man explains violations and fouls.
Violations are made when a player breaks the rules. They include:
    - Shot clock violation.
    - Double dribble.
    - Travelling.
    - Three in the key.
    - Charging.
    - There are more violations, as, for example, palming, kicking or goaltending.
There are three types of fouls:
    - Personal fouls. Illegal contact with an opposite player.
    - Flagrant fouls. A player makes violent contact against another player.
    - Technical fouls. They are not personal or flagrant.
Here finishes my explication about the video. I hope this to be useful for someone. Bye.
